Best Thing: Australian relevance, David Wenham as Eddie
Great to see a decent Australian film and I particulalry liked the fact that it was real and relevant to a local audience. David Wenham is superb as a very decent Eddie who seems to only ever have $3 and runs into a childhood sweetheart every 9.5 years that has a 'Sliding Doors' type of effect of Eddie wondering what if. Eddie is a good man in not so good times.
Issues such as the balancing act of a stay at home mother coupled with the financial strain of a mortgage (or even the too expensive cheese), with the breadwinner in a job made less enjoyable by politicking and petty colleagues, and the changes each individual makes over the course of a relationship are dealt with in a way that many could relate to. There is a distinct lack of sugarcoating often prevalent on other movies.
I came out feeling like it had been a little rushed to finish up and I struggled with the rate of decent into alternative food sources.
All in all I enjoyed Three Dollars - certainly more so than many other imported titles of late. It is defintely worth the extra few dollars to see/hire it.
