I loved this film. I've not seen the series but I'm just about to go out and purchase the set. Buffy fans will love it for sure with the same dry humour that is perfectly delivered by the cast, the creepy badness and fighting-the-good-fight goodies that we loved from Joss Whedon. We also have a reincarnation of Buffy in River, the cute teenage girl who's cursed as a super weapon.
It's a science fiction film where the technology isn't the focus, we see cool things that don't need exposition to get and there is no time wasted on using invented technology to win the fight. We are immersed in a future that is creative, plausable and yet familiar.
The space set fight scenes are very similar in treatment to Babylon 5 which is a big plus as they had a kind of realism that made them look fast and scary.
I have to mention all the hotties this movie has too, it was totaly eyecandy and made no apologies for it.
There is also a nice strong global political parallel in this story that I have to believe is deliberate considering the hero types and battles JW uses in his stories.
See it!!
