Best Thing: Squirrels
Worst Thing: Greedy Children
This re-make is really just a bigger and brighter adaptation of the original. Taking full benefit of the CGI advancements and filmic leaps Tim Burton in his true hyper-real style manages to create a compelling film.
Johnny Depp is very different to Gene Wilder - a lost child rather than the former slightly malicious depiction of Wilders. The updating of the Oomp - a - loompah singing I think is great.
The best scene is the Veruka Salt and Squirrel scene - and Freddie Highmore makes a perfect Charlie - with his great mixture of innocence and gravity. I think there will be some sentimental resistance by Gen. X to go and see something replace their fave childhood movie - but this film is a complement and tribute.
Don't miss it!
